VENUE
We are delighted to welcome you to Jaca, a privileged spot in the Aragonese Pyrenees that combines extraordinary historical wealth, a long-standing University tradition, and an incomparable natural setting. Known as the “Pearl of the Pyrenees,” the city stands out for its decisive role in the origins of medieval Spain, having served as the first capital of the Kingdom of Aragon under the reign of Ramiro I in the 11th century. This historical importance is evident as you stroll through its streets, dominated by the majestic Cathedral of Saint Peter—a landmark of Romanesque art on the Iberian Peninsula and a key milestone along the Aragonese Way of Saint James—as well as the striking Citadel, an impeccably preserved 16th-century pentagonal military fortress.
Joining this deep cultural heritage is a close connection to academia and research. Jaca is the historical birthplace of the University of Zaragoza’s Summer Courses, pioneers in Spain since their creation in the 1920s. For nearly a century, the iconic Residencia Universitaria (University Residence) has hosted professors, scientists, and students from around the globe, turning the city into an intellectual meeting point in an exceptional environment and serving as the ideal setting for MycoJaca 2026.
