ARAID
Founded in 2005 by the Government of Aragon, ARAID (Aragonese Agency for Research and Development) is a non-profit foundation with a clear mandate: to promote research, development and innovation as key drivers of regional progress. Operating across six major scientific domains — Biomedical Sciences, Social Sciences, Experimental and Mathematical Sciences, Human Sciences, Agricultural and Veterinary Science, and Technological Sciences — ARAID acts as a strategic bridge between academic excellence and the broader needs of Aragonese society.
ARAID’s primary activity is the recruitment and stabilization of outstanding researchers, through competitive international calls open to talented scientists with internationally recognized track records. Since its inception, the Foundation has attracted more than 118 researchers to Aragon, whose combined scientific output exceeds one thousand published articles, hundreds of conference presentations, and dozens of patents. These researchers have participated in over 715 projects, generating more than 200 million euros in funding, of which approximately 52 million have been directly invested in the region.
Committed to making Aragon an attractive and stable destination for scientific careers, ARAID also promotes interdisciplinary debate, supports institutions in securing competitive funding, and fosters collaboration between academia, industry, and public administration. Its support for MycoJaca26 reflects this mission — backing frontier research in mycobacterial systems biology and contributing to the fight against tuberculosis as a global health priority.
